Success Stories

Here are some of the success stories and thoughts our members have shared with us.
Joe-

Just wanted to say thanks again for running the Red Rocks workouts. In addition to my swim, bike, run
training, I think the RR workouts really helped me with the race I did a couple weekends ago out in
San Fran. It was the Escape from Alcatraz, a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco, followed by
an 18 mile bike ride, and a 8 mile trail run. I was ecstatic when I finished the race. Besides overall
fitness, I especially think the Red Rocks stuff helped me on the uphill runs. I was smoking people
going up the hills, and especially this one section called the sand ladder. It's like running the
stairs at Red Rocks on sand. Anyway, here are some fun pictures from the race, the ones at the end
with the pro athletes are pretty cool. Click here for photos

Thanks again.
Take care,

Allen
Hi Joe,

I meant to send you this email after last weekend, but am just getting around to it now. I feel like I
need to share with you what happened last weekend. At the end of the killer indoor workout last weekend,
you encouraged us to do some chinups. I had not done chinups since college...and even then I was using a
partner for support. As you know, it has been a difficult few years for me and I am finally getting back
to the real me again. Last weekend, when I was able to accomplish 10 chinups by myself, I was in awe. I
have been doing Red Rocks only sporatically for a few months now, and I cannot believe the changes that
have taken place for me physically. But those 10 chinups meant so much more than physical change or what
you call body transformation. Those chinups were a mark of physical, emotional, and mental change...for
me, Red Rocks has been about life transformation. Thank you so much!! You just will never know how much
you and the group have meant to me. I am so grateful for the impact you have had on me...and I hope you
realize the impact you have on every person that walks up those Red Rocks stairs. I look forward to the
next workout...and the next one...and the next one...and the next one...
Bring it!!

Laura
Hello,

I was up at Red Rocks today and was really impressed with the workout that was going on all around me.
I am the varsity basketball coach at Standley Lake High School and really believe in what Red Rocks can
do for basketball players (i trained here when I played Semi-Pro ball). Would you mind if I brought 10
varsity players and joined the workout with them and my assistant coaches?

Thanks,
Mike Puccio

Hey Joe,

Today was my first time and I was rocked! Thanks for doing this...it's incredible. I look forward
to coming each week and bringing some friends along! You're awesome!

Hey Joe,

My name is Robert("the guy in white" from the beginning of the day), and I've been coming to Sunday's
RRF for about a month now. I'm really enjoy it man; looking to take my fitness to the next level and
I really see this as the way,. I wanted to check out the HARDNUTRITION seminar too. Could you get back
to me about the next one? Thanks for your time Joe.

~Robert Xavier.
Hi Joe — I teach a spinning class at my local rec center and I LOVE the music mix you have
on your site — do you ever give permissions to download/and or copy it? It would be great for class!

Thanks,
Sarah Shaffer
Hey Joe,

First of all - AWESOME workout. I have to say that a little part of me is liking all the push-ups,
but I think I'm delusional from all the push-ups. Serious, so excellent. You inspire all of us!

I posted these recipes & some others. If at least one person reads them & likes them, that's all
I care about.

I have been so much more conscience about my eating since 03/01, isn't it amazing how much better you
feel without cr@p put into your body? My competitive friends & I are, of course, in competition to see
who loses the most in 1 month. Keep kicking our butts - that's why we come!!

See you this weekend -

Holli
Ok, so today is day 4 after I did the new routine at RRF - my calves are STILL KILLING ME!!!!
Something like this has never ever happened before (and I do work out regularly and pretty
intense). Well Joe, you sure kicked it up! Actually can't wait for more torture this weekend!
(...still thinking about installing a chair lift at my house though...*lol* walking downstairs is
seriously the worst!!)

Hey All -

First, I'd like to say that I had a blast on Saturday working out with you all. I'm sore from my toes
to my earlobes, but I enjoyed every minute of the workout, and it's a happy kind of hurt! :D You are
all incredibly motivating, inspiring, and welcoming people, and I look forward to working with you all
again on Wednesdays and Weekends for a long time to come... And Joe, you're a saint in my book! I'm
sure you hear this all the time, but it never hurts to reiterate it... you are making such a difference
in so many people's lives with your determination, dedication, and giving spirit. I wish I had found
you sooner!

Anyhow, to the nutrition. I'm far from a nutrition guru, but I'm good at math, and while I hate calorie
counting, I have found it very beneficial. Over the course of the past 8 months I have gradually begun
eating more and more (and by this I mean larger and larger portions, not eating more frequently) and,
when I couldn't button my jeans anymore, I decided enough was enough. To get a handle on how much food
I was actually putting in my body, I started using this online calorie counter through Livestrong.com
called the Daily Plate. It makes it really easy to keep track of what you consume, allows you to get
rough estimates of how many calories you're burning while working out, and breaks everything down into
nice graphs and charts so you can see your progress. In the past month I have lost 10 pounds, and the
only real difference I've made in my lifestyle was cutting back on portions. I had no idea how much I
really was eating until I started to log it and see the numbers! Oh, and the best part: it's FREE!
(Yeah, that's my favorite four-letter word.)

I know a lot of us have weight loss goals that coincide with New Years Resolutions, so hopefully this
will be of use to some of you out there.

See you on the rocks soon!

After my Mom passed away I felt lost. I still had David, my Dad, my family, and my close friends,
but there was something missing inside me. Hospice offered a wonderful program that I went to and it
did help me heal some of the hurt, but that didn't seem to be enough. I knew that one of my favorite
pastimes was working out, so I went with David to Red Rocks Fitness. The first day I went, I crashed
on the bleachers and thought, "There is no way I can do this, I will just stick with the Rec.!" LOL!!!
Well, I gave it a second, third, and forth shot...and here I am today! The workouts have made me feel
energetic and alive, but the best part for me, are the people. Everyone has welcomed me with open arms
bringing me into their little family. I wish there were enough words to tell all of you thank you for
helping me heal a part of me that felt so lost.

When it comes to my goals, this is my plan:

Each week I have a goal - add an extra pushup, to sprint further up the bleacher's, an extra group of
the backward crawl, to run further, to hold myself on the wall for an extra couple seconds, to skip
further up the bleacher's, to do a few extra squats,...etc.

Thanks especially to you Joe,
Shawnda
Joe...

I had such a GREAT time working out with you guys on Sunday!!! And let me tell you...my body is still
recovering. I can't remember the last time I was this sore!!! I love it!!! I just wanted to thank
you for such a great workout. My boyfriend Rob and I (he was the blond in the white shirt and black
shorts and I was the brunette in all blue) had such an awesome time with you guys and can't wait to
do some more workouts with you :) We plan to be there at least Saturday and maybe Sunday...depending
on if my body can handle it! We also registered to do the 5k that you guys do every Thursday and I
was hoping to get a little info from you. Do you start at the Irish Snug? Is that the best place to
try and park? And do you guys, RRF people, all meet and then try and run together? We just want to
try and meet up with you there and get a good run in. If you could let me know I'd really appreciate
it! And tell Denise (I hope that's her name...long brown hair?) thanks for being g! so nice and
welcoming :) She definitely helped me get through Sunday and I just really appreciated how friendly
she and everyone else there was. You guys are a great group of people and I hope to see more of you!
Anyways, hope to hear from you soon!

Aubree
Hey Joe!

I've come to quite a few Sunday workout sessions now and love it (in an ass-kicking, I'm really going
to hurt tomorrow sort of way)! I figured I better join the e-mail list to make it official. Thanks for
all that you do. It's such an admirous community service what you are doing, and I just wanted to
through down some apreciation! So thank you!

Amber Schneider
Thanks, Joe - you're a great coach - I had a great time (of course I just took a hot bath and am
going to bed already!) and the group was very friendly and encouraging! I'm hoping to make it a
regular event and be in a bikini this spring!

Jodi
Joe,

I just wanted to tell you how completely awesome I think you are for doing this class. I just
recently heard about you and got the immense pleasure (and I have to admit...fear) of watching you
and your group work out this weekend for a little bit. I have recently made the decision to change my
life and get healthy...I've been participating in a Body Makeover Challenge for the past 8 weeks and
have dropped 13 lbs and almost 3% body fat. After seeing your class, I am even more inspired and my
goal is to participate in your class next summer. So I just wanted to say THANKS for giving your time
to these people and I look forward to working out with you next summer!

Rachel
Hey All,

Jay suggested that we get started on our track workouts this weekend - we'll need strong conditioning
to keep our mental focus late in the tournament. I couldn't agree more.

This Saturday, I'll be joining a Red Rocks fitness group led by a fellow ultimate enthusiast - Joe
Hendricks.

This workout will kick your butt. It's a variety burst speed training, plyos for full body, weights,
cardio. It's not an ultimate-specific workout, but will definitely be helpful. It starts at 8am on
the RedRocks Stage. More info at http://www.redrocksfitness.com/

I'm up for carpooling. Those of you interested -please let me know by tonight.

Regards,
Eric Hudson
Hi all,

I stumbled upon this group only two weeks ago, accidentally, and I am so pleasantly surprised that I
did. Before I moved out here a month ago from R.I., people there thought I was a little manic or
obsessive or something, just because I liked working out, a lot, they couldn't understand that THAT'S
what got me excited...that I actually enjoyed it. Go figure! They thought something must have happened
to my car if I pedaled into work. Thought I was trying to lose weight if I went for a run. Told me
"Careful Honey, don't bulk up" if I lifted weights. No one got me (in 1,000 ways which is why I moved
here). I feel like I not only found a group of people who might "get" me just a little bit, but even one
that I have trouble keeping up with. HA! I love it. A big ole' challenge! You guys are crazy and it is a
blast and motivating. And nice people to boot!! Had so much fun with y'all at Joni's party last week.
Thank you, to those of you, who have made me feel so welcome, and who went out of your way to make my
daughter feel welcome and have fun. (especially asking for certain tunes for her....hmmm...did not go
unnoticed ;)

I am now rambling. Just wishing I could have worked out with you today (working the graveyard shift this
weekend and catching up on sleep during the day) Waaah! So it is your fault now that I am JONESING to
work out with you all again. Looking forward to next week!!

Lisa
aka RockstEr
Changing lives and brightened days...and that is how I think about you. When I met you Joe,
I could not do 10 pushups. You made me realize I only wanted to do 10 push-ups. Day after
day, sweat, rain, snow, heat, your dedication inspires me and DesiLou (she recently beat
everyone in her class in a 400 sprint and got a 88 sec (this is a 5.52 mile) YIKES!! to do
better every time just because I can. You are an amazing gift and I have a new goal now for
myself, to try to be 1/4 of the generous and inspirational person that you are for
others...it has changed my life for the better.

Thank you my friend!
~Denise :D :D
How I became a RedRocksFitness zealot

I am moved to write something here about my experience with RedRocksFitness because it has
become such an important and fabulous part of my life and want to support this new cool
forum (Hoyoul you seriously rock!). I think I started out like most new people who come out
for the first time. I was already pretty invested in exercise/fitness and looking for
something new, fun and challenging. Plus I'd better acknowledge that my dear friend Denise
(AKA Ms. Red Rocks) had already brought me up there a few times to do our own thing and
then she introduced me to this group.

Yesterday I heard some folks who were there for the first time exclaiming and grumbling that
the workout is ridiculous and Joe's expectations are completely unrealistic. "No way am I going
to try that!" Made me laugh because I remember having similar thoughts. But what I've come to
realize is that is exactly what is so great about Joe and this group. The expectation is that
anyone and everyone can push themselves outside their comfort zone and improve their fitness.
And have a great time doing it! Of course it is the same folks who also talk about how much fun
the workout was and plan to come back for more.

So my hope would be to encourage people to stick with it. You will notice a difference in no
time. Most of us who are able, or at least always willing, to do whatever Joe tells us to do
did not start out that way and are still struggling and working our butts off (literally). But
I always bring everything I've got, and I always leave feeling like I can do anything. And that
is a great way to feel. I carry it with me in the rest of my life.

Now I am totally hooked.RedRocksFitness is absolutely one of my favorite things ever.I do
everything I can to work around the workout times and grieve every time I can't get there,
because I miss both the workout and the great group of people who come and participate. Awesome
people! I look forward to the next time I can get there, hoping we'll do that activity that
kicked my butt the last time so I can prove myself (to myself!). The other fitness stuff I do
just helps me condition myself to be able to do RedRocks. And, BTW, I am in the best shape of
my life (a great way to feel when you're as old as I am).

I am crazy about you, Joe, and so appreciative of everything you put into this for all of us!
Thanks so much!
Hello Joe,

We aren't a part of your group, but we go to Red Rocks most Sundays and we truly enjoy your
music. We have seen several times the unknown music hater turn off the music. What's going on
with that, when everyone seems to enjoy your mix, why does one person feel he has the right
to silence the music? Just curious, why is he is adamant about turning the music off? We'll
be there this Sunday and hope to hear the music!! Thanks.

Metro State Unofficial Walking Group
Joe, you are the devil. I could not use my upper body at all yesterday.

See you next weekend. ; )
Betty
Joe,

First of all I want to thank you for the great workouts you provide. I have won all my races
since I've started RRF. My goal is to win a ABA national bmx event and I am going to keep
pushin to acheive that goal with more RRF training.

I would like to see you get out the old bmx bike and give bmx racing a try again some day maybe?
I am sure you would do well with all your skills!

Thanks,
Chris Schumacher

Joe,

It's time for accolades! I love this thing you've created! I've been working out for 20 years,
since I was a kid, fitness is so ingrained in my life that I dont feel normal without it but I get
so ridiculously bored with the gym and running anymore. This class, this group, the energy, the
location all rock. I'm inspired to get my butt up early and push my limits with the group. I look
forward to it every week. Thanks for providing this experience.

I'll see you soon.

Take care,
Seth
Okay you probably won't recognize me in these pictures wearing a little bikini, make-up & hair
down it's not how I look when I'm working out.

Denise Vincioni
Hi Joe,

First of all I want to thank you for the awesome workout you provide to those willing to endure the
pain. I have only joined your group a couple of times, but truly enjoy it. I have noticed several
people wearing shirts with your logo on it:

Can I buy one? I would love to purchase a few of these if that is possible. Thanks for all you do!

Lisa Poates
Hi Joe

Thanks for putting on the great workout on Sunday, I am sore as crap. Could you please put me on the
email list? Thanks again, see you next Sunday.

Mark Cassalia
It was a pleasure to meet you at your Red Rocks workout on Saturday. That was some really great stuff
and as a P90Xer, you know I love my workouts! I think you have done a great job incorporating some of
Tony's stuff with yours...and oh man Joe...those last plank wall push-ups...come on...that's just great
thinking! Any time you need a push-up counter, I'm your man!

Thanks--

Shawn Hilbig-Double Trouble Fitness
Joe,

Wow.....I have been sore for the past 2.5 days since my first attempt with the Red Rocks Fitness class
but have to say it has been well worth the pain. I wanted to thank you for putting this class on for
everyone. I will try to make it to the Thursday class but not sure if I can due to my work schedule.
As for next weekend, is it possible for me to attend about 1.5 hrs of it?? I am heading out of town for
the weekend but wanted to participate in some of the class rather than miss an entire weekend.

Thanks again.

Mike Johnston
Hey Joe, just so you know, I have trained for marathons and triathlons and this boot camp by far is the
best training for my body ever!!! Bring it!!!

Jennifer
Thanks for doing what you do Joe! I really LOVE the class, I've only been a few times so far, but it's
AMAZING! I am interested in a ladies T-Shirt, so when you get some more in, let me know. I am already
seeing results in my legs (my HUGE problem area!) and I'm actually learning to do pushups! Crazy! See
you Sunday!

Ginai :D

My immediate goal was to drop (or look like I dropped) 15-20 by Aug. 8th (my 40th!!), thanks to you, I'm
close to hitting it!
Joe,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for what you do with Red Rocks fitness. I have come several
Saturdays (all that I am in town for) and it has totally changed my outlook on my fitness regemine. I
have always enjoyed working hard, but I know that I need external motivation to get me going. I
appreciate the culture of encouragement and discipline that you have created; it is a far cry from some
of my experiences with 'militant' work out groups, and it is so refreshing.

Mrs. Hollis Moore (recently transplanted from San Diego)
Joe,

Thanks for putting up with me this week. I am more than glad I came out on Tuesday and Thursday for my
first time. My arms are blasted, feel like someone is pouring molten steel on my tri's and shoulders.
It is horrible. Horribly great! My legs are feeling good. I won't be in town next week but I plan on
hitting the rocks next Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks for ruining my entire week! :)

Sincerely,
Tom Huseas (the new guy)
